The much-loved Bury Beer Festival is returning to The Met, ready to showcase the town’s healthy range of microbreweries.

The festival features bars from Bury-based Silver Street Brewing Co and Deeply Vale, Ramsbottom’s Irwell Works Brewery and Brewsmith, and Radcliffe’s Brightside Brewing Co. Each of these independent microbreweries, formed between 2010 and 2014, are family-run businesses born out of a passion for great beer.

As well as the five Bury breweries, the festival also welcomes nearby Strata Brewing Co; a ‘cuckoo’ brewery based in nearby Whitworth. Founded this year by brewer Andy Morrison, Strata specialise in collaborations, with a 6.0% ‘NZIPA’ created with Brewsmith promising to be one of the most-eagerly sampled beers of the festival.

Rounding out the list of breweries with their own bars at the festival is Bolton’s Northern Monkey Brew Co. The award-winning brewery was founded in 2016 and is fast building a reputation for quality and innovation. 2019 will be their first time at Bury Beer Festival.

In addition to this, festival-goers will be able to sample a range of draft ciders, and a selection of guest ales from across the country selected by the team from The Met’s popular bar and restaurant Automatic, who will also be serving a range of hot food. Local independent wine, beer and spirits retailer Kwoff will complete the list of bars, with a range of Gin and Tonics, fine whiskeys and can and bottle beers from around the country.

With the historic Derby Hall venue packed out with bars, Bury Beer Festival has gained a reputation as a uniquely sociable and welcoming event, with a focus on entertainment as well as fine drinking. The Friday night session of the festival will be soundtracked by DJs from Prestwich’s ‘Take Me to Church’ club night, with soul, funk, house and hip-hop for the discerning drinker.

As ever there will be the chance for drinkers to vote for Bury’s ‘Beer of The Year’, won at the last two festivals by Irwell Works’ uniquely-named Marshmallow Unicorn stout.
